Foam is generally an Open Cell material designed to allow certain size particle through, and to trap others (ie as a Filter Foam). A Sponge is an Open Cell material, that is capable of absorbing (ie water) and retaining fluid rather than simply letting it pass through as a filter. An Expanded Material has a Closed Cell structure which will not absorb water. Some materials (ie Polyethylene Foam) have a closed cell structure formed by Cross Linking - the cells of which can often be broken by pressure. |
Sheeting, mats, profiles, moulded items, strip, circular cord - are all types of sponge or expanded rubber and plastic products that are stocked. Different densities of material meeting various UK and Global specifications are also available. |
Available Materials are: Polyester Foam Polyether Foam PVC Foam Urethane Foam Plastic Foams Rubber Foams Polyethlene Foam These materials are used for cushioning, sound insulation, vibration damping, filter applications, packaging etc |
Our sponges are mostly Natural Rubber or Urethane types, although special absorbant plastic sponges are also now supplied. One of the most popular sponges is now Silicone. |
The most popular amongst the Expanded range is Neoprene (often referred to as 'Wet-suit' material). We also supply EPDM, EPDM and Neoprene blends, PVC, PVC/Nitrile and PVC/ EPDM blends along with more exotic polymers such as Fluoroelastomer. Simple seals such as self adhesive backed strips and pads are common. |
These materials are converted using a variety of methods, including stripping, laminating, sawing, routing, milling, press cutting, hot-wire cutting, cold forming, hot forming, water jet or laser cutting. Certain materials can be densified by heating (as in the case of Polyethylene) |
